Sneak Peeks of my Doll fashions for my 1st Craft Show ♥ ♥

First of all I haven’t done a show of any kind in so many years.  So what do you do when your family says “Mom” you need to get your doll clothes out here locally. No one has seen your sewing here in Minnesota.  (They have just not doll clothes)   If your me you roll your eyes , get a little bit anxious and just breathe deep.  Then you think this is fine I will talk to a couple of local friends and my online friends.  I know exactly what they will all say,  “just fill your Etsy Shop”.   LOL!  That didn’t work out as planned.  One very wise friend of mine just plainly states “Pull your big Girls panties up and go for it”!

Here I am sewing away for the last month, going crazy, what do you take to a Craft Show?  How many of each item do you sew? Phew!  How do you all do this?  Our ceramic business was much simpler.  How many egg separators could you possibly want?

Back to business.  I better stay on task or my children will be yelling MOM!   This weekend I decided its Jumper time.  Oh Sew Kat one of my favorite pattern designers for dolls. Has a couple of new patterns out there.

The name says it all.  Easy Up Jumper so if your sew then hop on over to her Etsy Shop and pick up the pattern.  I started with the 18″ doll size.  I sewed them for the American Girl doll.  My models were quite good this weekend.  They do like to show off.

Julie and Leah Easy up Jumper

Now I need to hem, embellish some.  “A girl has got to have her bling”.  And get the tops finished.

I was so excited to see 14″ doll size Easy Up Jumper out.  Shhhh personally I had Jumper weekend planned so phew!  Oh Sew Kat and her team were able to get the Pattern up for sale this weekend.  My Wellie Wishers and My new Glitter Girl dolls were so excited to help me out.   These dolls are a bit more demanding.  They needed spa time before sewing and modeling.

My 14' doll models

We got that out of the way.  Then it was time for my machine and I to get down to work sewing the jumpers up.  I have to say Jumper weekend was a success!

This is my first Sneak peek into my 1st Craft Show for Sewing! I have sewn for 50 some years, but never a craft show.  Whats up next, I will be sharing sneak Peeks now, until the day of the show Oct. 13th in Marshall MN.  This week tops, Leggings(went a bit over board there),dresses, P.j.s and overalls.  I am sure there will be a few surprises along the way. You can always check out my Etsy shop,  Facebook or Instagram.  I am also trying to get my Pinterest boards straightened up. (I better hurry I have a friend that yells at me, I should get them done)   One thing to keep in mind and I can’t change me!  I don’t sew alot of the same fabric.  You won’t find 5 of the same item or article of clothing for your doll in the same fabric.  I can do Special Orders if you contact me on Etsy we can chat about it.  I would love to work with you. I do specialize a lot more in sewing for the smaller dolls and the Girl for all time.(check out my listings for her in my Etsy shop).  With that said, I am leaving my comfort zone for the show  I am adding  18″ doll clothes.  Boy do I have some fun patterns to sew from,  from many wonderful doll designers. One last thing wait until you see my new 9″ dolls the Kruselings.   I could chat all night, I better finish up a few things.  Everyone have a great week.

Next Sneak Peek will be Wednesday.

Franklin the Turtle with his Doll Friends

Happy World Turtle Day!!!!

I thought it would be fun to just do a Blog on “Franklin the Turtle”.  Franklin has quite the personality.  He is a family pet and is around 6 years old.

Today when my daughter told me it was World Turtle Day, I thought he would have fun with his doll friends.  Well Lets just say Franklin was a good sport……………   so the story goes……………

Franklin 1 Franklin was happy as a turtle can be in his House with his rocks and log just relaxing in the quiet of the afternoon.  Then along came his human keeper to take him out on an adventure.  That look tells it all!!!!!!!

Franklin 2

Dee Dee  and Camille had an idea to take Franklin on a walk.  They thought for sure he would enjoy riding in the wagon.

Franklin 4

Whoops I don’t think Franklin thought this was so much fun!

Franklin 5Camille told Dee Dee this is more work than having a fun adventure.  I think Franklin is telling us he wants to go home.  We better not lose him.

Franklin 3Franklin then started back to the house.  Which in reality was probably only 200 feet away.  He looks quite happy.  Back to his relaxing house in the house to take a much needed turtle nap under his rocks.   He was a good Sport.

Happy World Turtle day from Franklin and his friends.

Fun with Fabric Dyes and 14″ Doll Overalls

I love using dyes on fabrics and wool.  Since Spring is just not cooperating with us I decided enough.  Mother Nature isn’t going to win.  I am going to cover my kitchen with Plastic bags and go for it.

I sewed up a couple pairs of White Jean OMG! Overalls. The Sewing pattern is from QTπ Doll Clothing in the size that fits the Wellie Wisher Dolls® or similar 14″ dolls.

According to the girls in my house I had to start with Purple.  We busted out the Purple dye. I managed to get a pretty good Ombré look.  Of course after rinsed again and totally dried they looked different.

This wasn’t as scary as I thought, so on to the next pair. I had shared this on my Facebook page. So a Doll friend suggested blues and yellows.

Multi colored Overalls dyed with 2 colors. Wellie Wishers 4-2018

After all the rinsing and drying in the dryer.  I brought the Overalls back in the Sewing Studio and am now in the process of finishing them with Lace and buckles.

Back in the Studio. Ready to be finished Dyed Overalls 4-2018 Welliewishers

I see much more Ombré dying in my future.  What a great way to put that On of a Kind look to an outfit.

I am hoping to have these in my  Etsy Shop Next week.  Shhhhhh  I am sewing a couple more pairs of overalls.  My Son asked me do a red color.  I really need to try a pair in Pink.

Needle felting Sleep Masks for your Favorite 14 inch Doll Such as the Wellie Wishers,Heart 4 Heart and the New Glitter Girls.

There is a saying that goes something like “A Girl needs her Beauty Rest”.  I am sure there are times my Sons think they needed a Mask or even a pair of head phones to tune out all the giggling.

My first Love has always been sewing.  7 to 9 years ago I fell into the World of Wool and Needle Felting.  I love it to relax at night and just create.  My dolls………. I know here we go again talking to the Dolls.    Just wait I actually talk to Wool Sculpted Dolls that I have created.  They each have a Rock in their head.

Annie Mae is my Sewing Helper She helps me create and sew.  Always there for a helping hand.  Now Cecilia she is quite the Character.  Kendall trusted them both when we were trying on the Elephant sleep mask.

Annie Mae with WW dolls Minnesota Rockheads

Not sure if I would Have.  All worked out well.

My Sleep masks are made from 100 percent Wool felt,Wool Merino and I also use some Pre felt.  (That is felt that is not completely felted yet.)

needle felted masks

I start by drawing a free hand mask on wool felt, from there I build the mask up by felting the wool in.

Troll mask

From here your creativity is free to roam.  You can sculpt with that needle and it becomes a OOAK unique Sleep mask for your Doll.

Reindeer 1

To me they always look a little goofy until I start to get to the end.  Then they all come alive. My Dolls just love them.  Last year I sold out.  So I have started to make some more. I always back them and use elastic for keeping the mask on.  Now I do confess the Elephant one didn’t sell, that was because my youngest Loves Elephants she hid it. LOL! I have made a new one.

back of mask

This is the back.  I make sure they are securely done so no chance of coming undone or I certainly hope not.  I will stand behind all my work.

This was taken last year as a simple group, before Mr. Elephant disappeared.  This year I have been working on Reindeer, Santa, Elves, unicorns. They will all appear soon for your favorite dolls to wear.

Look they are already asleep. They only modeled these bags.  All are put back up and ready to go to their new homes.

Looks like they are all having a serious talk here.  I love listening to little girls talk.  They are so much fun and full of imagination.

Willa and clarence the Moose

Willa never forgets to bring her best friend Clarence the Moose to a photo shoot.  These 2 have really became attached at the hip.  I remember Sculpting Clarence the Moose so many years ago, and thinking I wonder who his friend will be. Took a few years to find the perfect friend, these 2 are so much fun to take and do photos with now.   I may have to sit down and sculpt a few new friends this next year.

Pryamid of Sleeping Bags

The question of the week at my house was how many sleeping bags for 14 inch dolls  can 2 dolls stack up on each other.  The answer was 10! Yes my kids did bring me back to reality and let me know the Dolls didn’t really stack them. You never know.  Make Sure to Check out my Etsy Shop for some great Sleeping Bags and Pillows.

To close here is a picture of me, many  years ago on Easter morning.  When I asked Mom why was I crying?  She laughed and said your dad and I told you no candy for Church.  I can remember a Easter Sunday in Church a few years later and my big brother snuck some Candy in his pants pocket for him and I.   I laugh quietly every year on Easter Sunday in Church when I see those cute little kids, sneaking candy ever so quietly in their mouths.

This outfit that was sewn by me is currently up for Auction on the DFAC/Dollsforacause Facebook group page.  This auction benefits Autism. Kulture City Books.   Please go Check out all the great Donations.  These women do a wonderful job at running this page.

Our Logan Loves the color Orange.  So I knew he wanted to go paint. What boy doesn’t want to paint his our band room or even a tree house with Spring and Summer coming.  I sewed the Painter pants.  I then took the pants Splattered paint on them and his hat.  I have made sure the paint is permanently in the fabric.  I then sewed his shirt. Embroidering the designs  from my library I have purchased over the years to shirt and his hat I sewed.

I will be sewing a few more of these sets for my Etsy shop AmyViolets in a few weeks. I do see Pinks and Purples coming to life. If you have a question please message me on Facebook. Amy Violets doll Clothes. I won’t be able to match the paint splatter the same.  Also we mixed this Orange on his outfit. It was one of those times we had no Orange paint on hand.  This Outfit truly has a bit of that OOAK look.

Who is Amy Violets?

Awhile ago I was asked, Who is Amy Violets? Then it was your name is Pam! Then I would chuckle and giggle some. I thought I would write a fun blog on how I came up with my Business Name.

It all started many years ago when I was a young child. I learned how to sew from my grandma, and my Mom.  Mainly My grandma Eva on the farm.  When I was child my brother and I spent our Summer’s on our grandparents farm in Minnesota.  I can remember being quite small and sitting at this treadle machine and just staring at it.

I was around 4 to 5 years old.  My grandma Eva said lets sew. Oh……. I was in Heaven.  She taught me all the in and outs over the years on this Treadle machine. I sewed at home with my Mom too.  Nothing beats sitting at a Sewing machine that doesn’t plug in and listening to stories your Grandma tells you about Mom sewing to growing up on the farm. I even got to sew pillows from the old Seed sacks.

Here is a few notions I collected from Grandma Eva to the sewing Needles from My Mom. The black cast iron “iron” was my Mom’s as a child.

My grandma Eva Violet as a child with her Doll.  When I found this picture I held on to it.  She was just a young child walking through the snow.  My Mom sitting in a wicker chair with her dolls next to her in a rocker at 2 years old.

Fast forward many years to when I had a little girl named Amy.  She loved her dolls too.  She loved  her Mom (Me) to sew for them.    The Santa list started!  I knew I had sew everything a baby needed.  (She still to this day in her 30’s want Mom to sew all her Christmas presents, she  just had to figure out who Santa was)  Money was tight back then, my mom would help me get the fabric and my skills that grandma taught me would come in quite handy.  By then My Mom had given me her “Morse sewing machine” and I had no pattern  to cut from so I drew around the doll and a wardrobe and carriers were made.  Mrs. Claus sewed and my husband had the chore of putting doll strollers together. That is the same baby doll.  By the time that baby was retired, she was ready for her nap on the doll shelf.

We fast forward to 1990.  My Niece and Nephew moved in. My husband and I adopted both children.  Amanda loved her dolls. Then she fell in love with Barbies.  Those clothes challenged me.  I remembered a good trick my dad taught me.  Cut up socks to make clothes.  Mom did find out.  A whole different story.  I taught Amanda how to do that.  Whenever the sock bucket got full.  beware she was make Barbie dresses.  We had a lot less mismatched socks.  Then we are now raising 3 of our grandkids. 2 are girls.  Yes life does throw you curves.  The lessons from sewing to life that my grandma Eva taught me from a very young age sitting at that treadle machine on a hot and humid Minnesota day.  Have stayed with me all my life.  She taught the value of making something and being proud of it for yourself and to always take care of family.

Here are a few pictures from me being small with my baby dolls and my Late brother Erik who was always there to play with his little sister.  NOT!   He did many a time burp my baby dolls.  Amanda, Megan and April.  All my girls love their baby dolls to their big girl dolls.

When my husband and I decided I would stay home and become a full time Mom again almost 12 years ago. All my time was spent taking care of 3 little kids. A few years ago things started to come back to normal.  Amy said Mom you need to sew!  I had missed my machines.  We pulled everything from storage. My Son and his girlfriend introduce Megan and April to the 18″ dolls. I began to sew Doll Clothes again.  Slowly I have been getting back into the groove.

That brought to what do I name myself? What fits?  Believe me when you ask your family they can come up with some winners!   My Mom who lives with us. Said it needs to be something close to you and something that makes me smile. She came up with Amy who is my biggest fan.  She always has been. I said Violets, its my Moms favorite flower and my Grandma’s middle name! So Amy Violet’s was born!  Yes everyday when I sit at my machines I thank my  Grandma for all those lessons.  Yes she did get mad at me.  I was a little red head rebel.  No one could say Pamela Kay the way she did.

Here are a few pictures to end with of my Grandma with My Mom, me and Amy and Randy.

I better get back to sewing.  I sure had a fun time looking up old family pictures.  I had fun listening to my Mom say Randy looks like Great grandpa, or Look doesn’t Dakota look like my Dad.  Then my Mom would come across a picture of Grandma ,her and my brother the memories just flowed on out.  Thank you all for reading.  If you see my Logo or visit my page you all know now where Amy Violets came from.

Take care and Have a Good day
